Our program follows state and
Next Generation Science standards.
Elementary School (K-5) Main Topics:
Kindergarten:
-Focuses on foundational concepts in life science (e.g., plants and animals), physical science (e.g., pushes and pulls, energy), and Earth science (e.g., weather and climate).
First Grade:
-Continues with life science (e.g., structures and functions), physical science (e.g., light and sound), and Earth science (e.g., the Earth in space).
Second Grade:
-Explores topics like biodiversity and ecosystems, a changing Earth, and matter and materials.
Third Grade:
-Delves deeper into ecosystems, life cycles, weather and climate, and forces and interactions.
Fourth Grade:
-Focuses on structures and senses, features and processes of the Earth, energy, and waves.
Fifth Grade:
-Covers matter and energy in life, earth systems and interactions, earth, space and stars, and the structure and properties of matter.
Middle School (6-8):
Life Science:
-Explores cells to organisms, matter and energy in life, ecosystems, natural selection, and heredity.
Earth and Space Science:
-Covers space systems, history of Earth, Earth's systems, weather and climate, and human impacts.
Physical Science:
-Focuses on the structure and properties of matter, chemical reactions, forces and interactions, energy, and waves.

Project Information:
All students K-8 work on creating a science collection, nature journal, and capstone end of the year project. For the science collection, students can create a collection by interest. Examples: rock collection, mineral collection, acorn collection, etc. During the year several teacher created modules will be shared to provide students examples and provide guidance. Students will also be encouraged to create a nature journal, and spend time each month outside drawing what they have seen or adding fun notes. A location for students to upload images will be provided for students who want to share their creative side. The end of the year capstone project is a favorite for all students. For this project students will pick a topic they have learned about during the year and dive deeper into the topic to create a video summary, voice recording, artwork, 3D model, digital slideshow, or poster on the topic chosen. These assignments give students a chance to research, be creative, and explore-all key themes for science comprehension skills.
How do I find my state requirements? Most states have the same general science requirements. Please visit your state dept of education website, and click "grade level standards" to see a list of what needs to be taught for each grade level in science.
